TNT Sports replaced BT Sport in July 2023 when Warner Bros. Discovery bought the rights-holding business. The channels are the same, the rights are the same, but the branding and subscription paths have changed. For UK football viewers this is the home of European football and a sizeable chunk of the Premier League.
What football is on TNT Sports
TNT Sports has rights to every major European club competition in the UK and Ireland, plus a slice of the Premier League:
- UEFA Champions League — every match, all rounds, all groups, through to the 2026/27 season
- UEFA Europa League — every match, same contract window
- UEFA Conference League — every match, same contract window
- Premier League — 52 live matches per season (2025/26 to 2028/29), typically including Saturday 12:30pm kick-offs on big weekends and first-pick December rounds
- Serie A — full Italian top-flight rights through 2029
- Coupe de France — French cup competition
- Ligue 1 — selected matches, shared with streaming partners
TNT does not have EFL matches, La Liga, or the Scottish Premiership. Those sit with Sky Sports.
How to watch TNT Sports
TNT Sports is not a standalone channel pack you buy directly in most cases. It lives behind one of three subscription routes:
Discovery+ Premium (the streaming route)
This is the most flexible path. Discovery+ has a Premium tier that includes all four TNT Sports channels plus Eurosport coverage of tennis, cycling, and winter sports.
- Monthly: £30.99/month, contract-free
- Annual: a slight discount if paid upfront
Discovery+ Premium streams on Fire TV, Roku, smart TVs, phones, tablets, and PlayStation/Xbox. Picture quality goes up to 1080p. No 4K option exists on Discovery+ for TNT Sports.
Sky customers adding TNT Sports
If you already have Sky TV, adding TNT Sports as a channel pack runs about £30/month on top of your existing Sky subscription. You get the same TNT channels but accessed through Sky Q, Sky Stream, or Sky Glass. Sky Q boxes can record TNT Sports channels.
BT broadband and EE mobile customers
TNT Sports is still bundled with some BT and EE packages at a discount. If you have broadband or mobile with either, check your account for the TNT Sports add-on. Prices vary but often beat the standalone Discovery+ Premium rate.
Champions League coverage on TNT Sports
Champions League is TNT Sports’ biggest draw. The 2024/25 season was the first under UEFA’s new 36-team league format, and TNT shows all 189 matches. The production is extensive:
- Every Tuesday and Wednesday matchnight through the group phase
- Pre-match studio from Match Centre with rotating panels
- All knockout rounds including the final, which TNT also shows on free-to-air ITVX in a shared-rights deal starting 2024/25
- Full radio and highlights rights via the broader UEFA contract
The 2026/27 season is the final year of TNT’s current deal. From 2027/28 onwards UEFA has already sold the next cycle, and the rights may split differently between broadcasters.
Premier League on TNT Sports
TNT’s 52 Premier League matches per season skew toward big weekends:
- Saturday 12:30pm kick-offs on selected weeks
- First-pick matches in midweek December rounds
- Some Boxing Day and New Year’s Day fixtures
The same 3:00pm Saturday blackout that applies to Sky also applies to TNT. No UK broadcaster can show matches kicking off between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on Saturdays during the main league season.
Streaming quality
TNT Sports tops out at 1080p on Discovery+ and on Sky. There is no 4K UHD option for Champions League or Premier League matches on TNT, even though the cameras at matches are often 4K-native. This is a known gripe for TNT subscribers.
Audio is stereo on most matches, 5.1 surround on big Champions League nights.
Free Champions League matches
ITVX carries selected Champions League matches in a free-to-air sharing deal that started in 2024/25. Typically:
- One match per midweek in the group phase
- One knockout round tie per round
- The final, shared with TNT Sports
ITVX is free with registration. It is the only legal free path to any Champions League match in the UK.
How TNT compares to Sky Sports
The two services are complementary rather than competitors for most viewers:
- TNT Sports for Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Serie A, and the 52-match Premier League slice
- Sky Sports for the 215-match Premier League block, EFL, La Liga, F1, cricket, and the Scottish Premiership
Few serious football viewers get by with just one. A combined Sky + TNT setup covers virtually every legal live football match in the UK. Cost is roughly £60 to £75 a month all in.
Amazon and DAZN in the UK
Amazon Prime Video had 20 Premier League matches per season until the end of 2024/25. Those rights went back to Sky and TNT from 2025/26 onwards. Prime Video carries no live UK football as of 2025/26.
DAZN operates in the UK but is focused on boxing, MMA, and some women’s football, not Premier League or Champions League. A DAZN subscription is not a replacement for Sky or TNT for men’s football viewers.
