First leg recap: PSG 5-4 Bayern
The first leg at Parc des Princes on 28 April was the most extraordinary night of the season. Harry Kane and Michael Olise both scored for Bayern in the first half, only for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to pull one back before the break. João Neves levelled, then Ousmane Dembélé put PSG ahead. After half time, Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé both got their second to make it 5-2, but Dayot Upamécano and Luis Díaz scored late to set up a one-goal aggregate going into the second leg.
The match broke the previous semi-final first-leg goal record of eight (Liverpool 5-2 Roma, 2018). Both managers — Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique — admitted afterwards the defensive structure had been “open” in a way neither would normally tolerate.
For UK viewers wanting to back the second leg, bet365 and William Hill carry pre-match and in-play markets. Both have priced PSG as marginal favourites to advance.
Team news
Bayern Munich: Kompany has a fully fit squad available — the bigger question is shape rather than personnel. Konrad Laimer and Joshua Kimmich are likely to start in the double pivot, with Olise, Musiala and Coman ahead of Kane. The first leg’s defensive issues have led to public discussion of whether Bayern shift to a back five for the second leg, but Kompany said in his Tuesday press conference Bayern “will not abandon their style”.
PSG: Luis Enrique rested his entire first team for the previous Ligue 1 fixture against Heidenheim, signalling complete focus on the Munich return leg. Donnarumma starts in goal; the back four is settled at Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Vitinha, João Neves and Zaire-Emery anchor midfield; Dembélé, Ramos and Kvaratskhelia in attack.
What Bayern need
To go through in 90 minutes, Bayern need to win the second leg by two clear goals. A one-goal Bayern win takes the tie to 30 minutes of extra time at the Allianz, then penalties if still level. Any draw or PSG win sends Paris through. The away goals rule was abolished by UEFA in 2021 — there is no goal-difference tiebreaker before extra time.
What’s at stake
The winner plays the winner of Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid (Tuesday 5 May, Emirates) in the 2026 Champions League final on Saturday 30 May at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest. PSG would be looking for a second European Cup final after their 2020 loss to — coincidentally — Bayern in Lisbon. Bayern would be looking for their first since their 2020 triumph against PSG.
